(THE GREATEST PIGEON RACE IN THE WORLD TODAY)
REPORT ON TRAINING RACE 4.
UNITED KINGDOM TEAM wins 1st, 38th, 93rd, 112th, 139th, 146th, 179th, 209th, 215th, 219th, 241st & 256th Open and the IRISH TEAM wins 88th, 96th, 104th, 109th, 136th & 161st Open.
Well after a good result by both the United Kingdom and Irish Teams in last Saturday’s race, which resulted in 100% returns for both teams, it was once again training every day during the week to get them ready for the first official race, which took place on Saturday 10th November from 63 km (approx. 39 miles). A total of 4,034 pigeons were basketed, which was actually 100 less than last Saturday and this figure was made up by 3,036 International and 998 South African pigeons and included 283 from the United Kingdom and 79 from Ireland.
The convoy were liberated at 07-00 in fine and clear weather, 23c (73f) and with a light tail wind and the Race Director, Convoyer and Loft Manager thought that the winning pigeons would take about 40 minutes to cover the race distance. Everything was ready at the lofts and then all of a sudden a big gang was seen approaching the lofts, they swung round and immediately started to trap and first up on the computer screen was clocked at 07-42-08.98. CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st OPEN this week goes to PREMIER STUD, flying the flag for the United Kingdom with their pigeon named Josie to record a velocity of 1634ypm (approx. 56mph). Graham Sparks is the owner of the Premier Stud, which is located in Patrington, Hull, Yorks., and Brian Bolton is the Loft Manager. Graham entered this race for the first time and sent 12 pigeons and still had all of them in this race, which in itself is a great achievement. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS. A total of 50 pigeons were clocked within 50 seconds of the winner and the top ten resulted in five different countries being represented with 1 pigeon from the United Kingdom, 6 from Germany, 1 from Belgium, 1 from Denmark and 1 from Czech Republic making a truly International result. It turned out to be a quite remarkable race because 2,500 pigeons were actually electronically recorded by the Unikon Clocking System within 15 minutes of the winner. When the first official posting of the result was put onto the web site at 09-15 a total of 3,735 pigeons had been officially recorded, leaving 299 still to return to base and this figure included 235 from the UK and 72 from Ireland. A further update was put on the web site and this showed a total of 3,821 pigeons had been clocked by 17-00 and this resulted in 250 UK and 73 Irish pigeons in the updated result, which left 213 still to make it back to base camp. The temperature rose to 32c (90f) as the day progressed and as usual other pigeons worked in later in the day and during Sunday and Monday.
